From Alan Neider
had never had an avocado until I met Alan, the man who would become my future husband. I also had never had Mexican food (or Chinese, for that matter). He introduced me to a culinary world of seeming exoticism and sophistication. Alan taught me to make guacamole.
When Alan (my husband) and I were living in Chicago, we had the greatest studio on Fulton St. Alan was also very talented at customizing. On Sunday afternoons, when I wanted a break from my work, I would walk from my second floor space to Alan’s on the third. There I would find him stretched out on a couch, in front of a conical fireplace, that he had installed (definitely not up to code). He would be watching a Bears game on TV and munching on guacamole.
