As long as I can remember, my Mom, Clare Criscuola, has made hot fudge sauce for whoever asked her to make it: my old boyfriends, girlfriends—Lynn Macaboy Schmidt remembers it fondly over cream puffs filled with ice cream, her grandchildren, and especially me. It is the perfect balance between chocolate and butter with a spike of sugar and vanilla.
She would make cream puffs, brownies, or whatever and top with the hot fudge sauce and ice cream was also great. Heaven on earth. She doesn’t recall where she got the recipe, but thinks she might have been given it by one of her friends, Vilma.
Whenever hot fudge Sauce is in the house (in the refrigerator)—it beckons me in the middle of the night and is great cold.
